Final 4 - Semifinals

C.S.U. Alba Iulia - Flying Foxes Wien 81:59 (15:23; 32:29; 53:44)

The favorite of the second semifinal game was home team Alba Iulia. Mutual games of the current CEWL season promised us a close and interesting game. Both team won the home games in the preliminary roud of CEWL.

Flying Foxes screamed home team by very fast and effective game in the first quarter ended by three-point buzzer beater. Alba Iulia had problem with the austrian's zone defense. To the second quarter went “another team” of Alba Iulia. Home players defend very well and destroyed Foxes by fast breaks.

Home team found the recipe for the zone defense and the Foxes' shortage was higher and higher. Wiena played only in 8 players, when home team could change 10 top quality players. The difference was really big in the second half and home team went to the final without problems.

Popov M. (Alba Iulia): “It was really interesting game. We were a little bit afraid in the first half, when we didn't find the way to attack zone defense. This games of Final 4, especially when you are playing at home, are bringing the pressure to the team.”

Strebenz L. (Flying Foxes Wien): “I would like to congrats home team for the win. They had 10 players on the top high quality on the roster. We tried to save power for offense by playing zone. You know, we have here only 9 players. I am happy to be here and play Final 4.”

Univ. Goldis ICIM Arad - Piestanske Cajky 73:62 (19:22; 39:37; 55:54)

Romanian team Univ. Goldis ICIM Arad was worried about the winning until to the last quarter. The winner of CEWL Preliminary round started the semifinal as a big favorite. But... Piestanske Cajky played very simple and clever basketball. Cajky played good defense, when they changed personal and zone defense.

Arad lost during the first half seven points. To win the first half of game helped him two important things in the last minutes of the second quarter – technical foul for the coach of Cajky and buzzer beater of Monika Borzovszky, when she made the shot from the half-court in last second.

In the third quarter was the game closed too. Monika Borsovszky decided the match thanks her scoring explosion in the middle of the last quarter. Loss more then 10 points was to much for Cajky.

Aruajo J. (Univ. Goldis ICIM Arad): “It was a tough game for us. I am proud to team for winning this game. We expected tough games this weekend and the match against Cajky confirmed that we' re right. We were better in the fourth quarter. Piestany missed a few good shooting positions in offense.”

Pospisil M. (Piestanske Cajky): “Arad played good basketball during this season and today too. We lost a lot of situation one on one in the defense in last quarter and missed three or four easy shots. It was great to play against team of this sort like Arad.”
