History of CEWL

 

Central Europe Women League (CEWL) has been created from the initiative of the Czech Basketball Federation in 2007.

 

FIBA Europe recognized CEWL as a official competition by the decision of the Board of FIBA Europe on 11 November, 2007

 

 

CEWL 2007/08

 

14 teams

 

First phase:

before season 4 tournaments in 4 participating countries:

Group A - Rybnik (POL), Lokomotiva Karlovy Vary (CZE), Nitra (SVK)

Group B - Wels (AUT), Valosun Brno (CZE), Slovan Bratislava (SVK)

Group C - Sparta Praha (CZE), BK Strakonice (CZE), Victoria Košice (SVK), Herzogenburg (AUT)

Group D - Banská Bystrica (SVK), Sokol Hradec Králové (CZE), Poznaň (POL), Casovia Košice (SVK)

 

The best two teams from the groups of 3 teams and three best teams from the groups of 4 teams qualified to the second phase.

 

Second phase:

Group E - Sparta Praha, Banská Bystrica, Lokomotiva Karlovy Vary, Wels, BK Strakonice

Group F - Rybnik, Valosun Brno, Nitra, Sokol Hradec Králové, Victoria Košice

 

Final Four

in Banska Bystrica (SVK) 

1st - Banska Bystrica, 2nd Lokomotiva Karlovy Vary, 3rd Nitra, 4th Rybnik

 

 

CEWL 2008/09

Group A - Nitra (SVK) Lokomotiva Karlovy Vary (CZE), FF Wien (AUT), BSS Košice (SVK), BK Czech coal Aldast Strakonice (CZE)

Group B - Valosun Brno (CZE), Prešov (SVK), Cassovia Košice (SVK), Oradea (ROM), Wels (AUT); WELS withdrew during the season - all games were annulated
